ABOUT US

What We Do

Every Thursday we open the doors at Easington Colliery Methodist Church and serve tasty homemade meals, freshly prepared by our volunteer team, to the local community for just £1.

We also run cooking courses throughout the year, so that people can gain new skills while learning about how to eat healthy meals at a low cost.

We also have links with other organisations like Credit Union, who come along every week and help people manage their money. By doing this our hope is to bring a once very close-knit lively community back to its roots.

How It All Started

The idea of CAFE Together was born in 2012 when local churches in the area were concerned about the high levels of isolation and deprivation affecting their community.

After coming together to talk and pray about what they could do to help, it was agreed that a weekly hot meal provided within the colliery would help bring the community together, while teaching people how to cook healthy, nutritious meals on a budget.

The Next Step

A management team was formed, and in early 2013 a part time project coordinator was hired

Volunteers from several local churches joined us and in late February the first CAFE Together session took place.

We now serve 30-60 meals every week!
